I'm sure many of you will remember the days when the whole world seemed to slow right down on Sundays - shops were closed, there were no school or sporting events. One had to have planned carefully to make sure that all the Sunday braai supplies had been bought well in advance :)

As a child I wondered why there were such strict rules about Sundays - it seemed a bit legalistic to me. Granted, there is always the risk of being legalistic about observing the Sabbath, but I think we are far worse off now having opened the floodgates to weekday busyness on Sundays. In our constantly on-the-go world we can sense the gift that a day of stopping would represent, can't we?

This Sunday we begin a 4 week preaching series on the biblical practice of Sabbath. I hope that it will avoid legalism and guilt and lead us into life as God intended. Together with the Sunday services, there is excellent small group material available from John Mark Comer at [practicingtheway.org](http://practicingtheway.org). Numbers of our groups will be covering the material in their regular meeting times. If you'd like to join a group for this month, details are available through the office or at the welcome counter in the church. In addition a group will be meeting at the church on Thursday mornings at 10am - all are welcome to come and join us.
