My children didn't meet their school dress code this morning when I dropped them off, but they'll probably get away with it. Both of their schools are encouraging them to dress up in support of #BokFriday as the Rugby World Cup gets underway today. I'm enough of a FOMO that I wore a Springbok T-shirt to the office today too :)
Rugby may not be your thing (and you may be rolling your eyes at all the excitement around the RWC). Yes, it's just a game, and no, it's not rational or reasonable that a whole nation's mood can be so closely tied to what happens to 30 men and a ball in 80 minutes. We do need these kinds of diversions though, don't we? It may be an English football side, or a hobby of some kind, but we need something that gets us thinking about more than load-shedding or petrol prices!
In our course material on the practice of Sabbath this week, a whole host of activities were suggested that we could try on our sabbath - including walking, reading, praying, savouring a meal with family, and so on. What will it look like for you this week to intentionally stop, turn off your devices and engage in some kind of life-giving, renewing practice? For our family, our Friday evening plan is eat together, watch the RWC opening ceremony and then enjoy the no-pressure opening game between two teams who aren't South Africa :)
