In the first session of our Lent course this week, we were introduced to the concept of spiritual formation - the forming/shaping of spiritual character that has taken place in each of us over time. Dallas Willard said in an interview once that "everyone gets a spiritual formation. It’s like education. Everyone gets an education; it’s just a matter of which one you get."

We have all been formed or shaped by a multitude of factors that determine who we are today. The really hopeful note sounded in the course this week is that we all have some agency in determining what kind of people we will become in future. We don't have to just surrender to invisible forces beyond our control, but we get to play an active part in shaping our future selves. More than that, we don't do it alone - not even close! - our part is to co-operate with God who is already at work forming and shaping us.

It's not too late to join the course on a Wednesday morning or evening (or join one of the small groups meeting on other days during the week) - everyone is welcome! If getting to a course session is difficult for you, join the "From the Inside Out" WhatsApp group in our WMC WhatsApp community and follow the material being shared there each week.
