A few years back we invited the WMC community to come to a meeting and share ideas for our future. Feedback from that meeting showed every single group identifying reviving our youth and children’s ministry as absolutely vital for our church. This clearly was front of mind for everyone, but how were we to see progress, especially post-Covid?
Then came a wonderful God-moment earlier this year as Karen Cockerill and Mbulelo Mandindi came forward, offering to lead our children’s and youth ministry respectively, and within no time we had youth and children meeting again during our 09h00 service.
This week at our leaders’ meeting we heard from Karen and Mbulelo. Good things are happening in their groups and they are both positive and hopeful. What was clear in our meeting though is that as a congregation we all need to get behind them in practical ways:
* Karen, Heather and Helen are needing extra hands with the children. From helping with setup, to supporting the teachers (especially this term as they look to give extra focus to the senior primary age group).
* Mbulelo is keen to explore a Friday night programme, but needs parents on board and extra hands.
Whether you consider yourself a ‘youth and children’ person or not, we can all support what is happening here. Maybe start by popping your head in at the Lower Hall or Youth Room on a Sunday to see what’s happening? Or making a point of finding and meeting the respective teams over tea? Or thinking about how to encourage and support the good work that has begun this year?
